Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Nicotex 4 mg Fruity Mint Sugar Free Nicotine Gum contains Nicotine (4mg). It belongs to the Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) class of medicines.
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to help stop smoking and reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings in tobacco/nicotine dependence
Nicotine gum provides a controlled dose of nicotine absorbed through the lining of the mouth. This reduces nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings when you stop smoking, helping you gradually cut down and quit.
Chew 1 gum slowly until a tingling/peppery taste appears, then park it between cheek and gum; repeat chew–park for about 30 minutes. Use when you feel the urge to smoke; avoid eating or drinking (especially tea/coffee/soft drinks/acidic juices) for 15 minutes before and during use. Typical max is about 24 pieces/day; taper use gradually as cravings reduce. Not for continuous chewing like regular gum.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Nicotex Nicotine Gum Mint Plus Sugar Free, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Nicotex than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Nicotex are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult doctor (Use with caution; prefer non-pharmacological methods first; NRT may be considered if benefits outweigh risks) |
|---|---|
| Breastfeeding | Breast feeding UNSAFE |
| Alcohol | Use with caution (alcohol can trigger cravings; no direct interaction but avoid excessive alcohol while quitting) |
| Driving | Driving SAFE |
| Kidney | Kidney CAUTION |
| Liver | Liver CAUTION |
| Habit forming | No |
For adults and adolescents as advised; do not use if you are a non-smoker. Use with caution and consult a doctor if you have recent heart attack, unstable angina, serious arrhythmias, uncontrolled hypertension, severe liver/kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, or active peptic ulcer. Do not swallow the gum; excessive chewing may increase side effects. Keep out of reach of children and pets—nicotine can be dangerous if ingested. Stop use and seek medical help if severe allergic reaction or symptoms of nicotine overdose occur (nausea, vomiting, sweating, weakness, fast/irregular heartbeat).
Smoking cessation (with or without NRT) can alter levels/effects of CYP1A2 substrates such as theophylline, clozapine, olanzapine, ropinirole and caffeine (may need dose adjustment). Concurrent use with other nicotine products (patch/lozenge/e-cigarettes) may increase risk of nicotine excess unless supervised. Acidic beverages reduce buccal absorption if taken around dosing.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from heat and moisture. Keep in original pack and keep out of reach of children.
Nicotex Nicotine Gum Mint Plus Sugar Free helps you to quit smoking by reducing the craving for a cigarette and the irritable feeling that occurs when you stop smoking. In addition, counselling should be done to increase the chances of quitting smoking successfully. Quitting smoking can lower your chances of having lung disease, heart disease, or getting certain types of cancer that are related to smoking. Do not smoke while using Nicotex Nicotine Gum Mint Plus Sugar Free as it can cause nicotine to build up to dangerous levels. Inform your doctor if you develop a headache, nausea, or other digestive problems that do not go away. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble stopping Nicotex Nicotine Gum Mint Plus Sugar Free, as it can be addictive.
