Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated October 2026
Prednate contains Moxifloxacin (5mg/ml) + Benzalkonium Chloride (0.1mg/ml) + Difluprednate (0.5mg/ml). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone, Antiseptic and disinfectant and Corticosteroid / calcineurin inhibitor class of medicines.
This medicine combines 3 active ingredients: Moxifloxacin, Benzalkonium Chloride and Difluprednate. Moxifloxacin kills the bacteria causing your infection by blocking the enzymes they use to copy their DNA. Benzalkonium Chloride kills germs on the skin and in a wound, reducing the chance of infection. Difluprednate damps down the inflammation in the skin, which relieves redness, swelling and itching.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Most side effects of Prednate are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Stop and contact your doctor at once if you develop pain, swelling or tenderness in a tendon — the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle in particular. This group can damage tendons, and the risk is higher in older people and with steroids. Report any new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet promptly. Tell your doctor about any change in mood, confusion or agitation. Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection — this group makes the skin burn more easily. Finish the whole course; this group is heavily associated with antibiotic resistance and should be used only when prescribed. For external use only. Keep away from the eyes and the inside of the mouth and nose unless the product is made for that purpose. Do not use a strong antiseptic repeatedly on an open wound — clean running water and soap around the edges are usually better, and harsh antiseptics slow healing. See a doctor for a deep or dirty wound, an animal bite, a wound that will not stop bleeding, or one that becomes red, swollen, warm or discharges. Check that your tetanus cover is current after any dirty or penetrating wound. Use it only on the area and for the number of days your doctor specified. Potent steroid creams thin the skin permanently when used for too long. Never use a potent steroid cream on the face, the groin or the underarms unless your doctor has specifically told you to — the skin there is thin and absorbs much more. Do not use it on an infection. A steroid on ringworm, impetigo or herpes makes the infection worse while hiding it. Do not use leftover cream on a new rash, and never pass it to someone else. Stop and see your doctor if the area becomes more painful, weepy or crusted.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes.
Antacids, iron, zinc, calcium and milk markedly reduce absorption — separate them by at least two hours. Tell your doctor if you take steroids, a blood thinner or a medicine for heart rhythm. No significant interactions are expected. No significant interactions are expected from preparations used on the skin.
Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
