How Rezatrin Forte works

Rezatrin Forte Tablet is a combination of two antiparasitic medicines: Artemether and Lumefantrine, which treats malaria. These medicines work by increasing the levels of haeme in the blood, a substance toxic to the malarial parasite. This kills the parasite and stops the infection from spreading.

How to take Rezatrin Forte

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Rezatrin Forte Tablet should be taken with or after food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Rezatrin Forte Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause dangerous heart rhythm disturbance, fits and coma. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Rezatrin Forte

Most side effects of Rezatrin Forte are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Complete the full course exactly as prescribed. An incomplete course is a common cause of relapse and of resistant malaria. Return to your doctor if fever continues or comes back after treatment. Tell your doctor if you have a heart rhythm problem, or have had one in the family. Some of these medicines are avoided in G6PD deficiency — tell your doctor if you know you have it.

Do not take Rezatrin Forte if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Several are not suitable in pregnancy or in G6PD deficiency — your doctor will choose accordingly.

Interactions with other medicines

Tell your doctor about heart medicines, anti-epileptics and other antimalarials.

How to store Rezatrin Forte

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

You have been prescribed Rezatrin Forte Tablet for the treatment of acute uncomplicated malaria that is resistant to other antimalarial medications such as chloroquine. Tips to reduce the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes: Wear light-coloured and covered clothing when you are outside after sunset. Use insect repellent creams or sprays on parts of your body not covered by clothing. Spray to kill any mosquitoes that may have entered rooms in spite of screening. Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. It should be taken with food or drinks rich in fat such as milk. It may cause fatigue and dizziness. Use caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration. If you vomit within 1 hour of taking the tablets, take another dose. Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver or heart disease.
