Composition of Senzgat Eye Drops

Senzgat Eye Drops contains Gatifloxacin (0.3%w/v). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone class of medicines.

Uses of Senzgat Eye Drops

Senzgat Eye Drops is used in the treatment of bacterial eye infections.

Key benefits

  • Effective against a wide range of bacteria
  • Well absorbed when taken by mouth

How Senzgat Eye Drops works

Senzgat Eye Drops is an antibiotic. It treats bacterial eye infections by preventing the bacteria from dividing and repairing. It does so stopping the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase.

How to take Senzgat Eye Drops

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back, pull the lower lid down to make a small pocket and squeeze one drop into it, then close the eye gently for a minute. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye, your fingers or any surface. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause kidney injury, fits and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Senzgat Eye Drops

Most side effects of Senzgat are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Loose motions
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Sleep disturbance

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Stop and contact your doctor at once if you develop pain, swelling or tenderness in a tendon — the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle in particular. This group can damage tendons, and the risk is higher in older people and with steroids. Report any new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet promptly. Tell your doctor about any change in mood, confusion or agitation. Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection — this group makes the skin burn more easily. Finish the whole course; this group is heavily associated with antibiotic resistance and should be used only when prescribed.

Do not take Senzgat if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids, iron, zinc, calcium and milk markedly reduce absorption — separate them by at least two hours. Tell your doctor if you take steroids, a blood thinner or a medicine for heart rhythm.

How to store Senzgat Eye Drops

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if some is left. Keep out of the reach of children.
