Soframycin Skin Cream contains Framycetin sulfate cream 1% w/w (10 mg/g). It belongs to the Aminoglycoside antibiotic class of medicines.

How Soframycin Skin Cream works

Framycetin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. This stops growth and leads to killing of susceptible bacteria on the skin.

How to take Soframycin Skin Cream

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 2-3 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Can be covered with a sterile dressing if advised. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and inside nose; wash hands after use.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Soframycin Skin Cream

Most side effects of Soframycin Skin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use only on skin; do not apply to eyes or large areas of broken/damaged skin unless prescribed. Prolonged or excessive use may cause fungal overgrowth or bacterial resistance. Use with caution in patients with known allergy to aminoglycosides; avoid use in deep puncture wounds or serious burns unless under medical supervision.

Do not take Soframycin Skin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use in or around the eyes.

Interactions with other medicines

Increased risk of aminoglycoside toxicity if significant absorption occurs with other aminoglycosides (e.g., gentamicin, amikacin, tobramycin, neomycin) or other nephrotoxic/ototoxic drugs (rare with topical use).

How to store Soframycin Skin Cream

Store below 25°C. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep cap tightly closed; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
