Composition of Tamadol Injection

Tamadol Injection contains Tramadol Hydrochloride 50 mg/mL (commonly 2 mL ampoule = 100 mg). It belongs to the Opioid analgesic (centrally acting); SNRI-like reuptake inhibitor properties class of medicines.

How Tamadol Injection works

Tramadol is a centrally acting opioid analgesic. It binds to mu-opioid receptors and also inhibits reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline in the CNS, which enhances descending inhibitory pain pathways and reduces pain perception.

Side effects of Tamadol Injection

Most side effects of Tamadol are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause respiratory depression, sedation, and impaired alertness—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence, abuse and withdrawal; use lowest effective dose for shortest duration. Can precipitate seizures, especially in patients with seizure disorders or with interacting medicines. Risk of serotonin syndrome with serotonergic drugs. Use with caution in elderly, head injury, respiratory disease (asthma/COPD), hepatic or renal impairment. Avoid in severe respiratory depression and acute intoxication with alcohol/sedatives. Do not use in children unless specifically prescribed; avoid post-tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy opioid use. Naloxone and resuscitation facilities should be available when used parenterally.

Do not take Tamadol if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, sedatives, opioids) increase sedation/respiratory depression; SSRIs/SNRIs/TCAs/MAOIs, triptans, linezolid increase serotonin syndrome risk; antipsychotics and bupropion increase seizure risk; carbamazepine reduces effect; CYP2D6 inhibitors (fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine) may reduce analgesia; warfarin may increase INR/bleeding risk (reported)

How to store Tamadol Injection

Store below 25°C, protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep in original carton; use immediately after opening ampoule; keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Tamadol Injection

Use the lowest dose for the shortest period. If you need a painkiller regularly, see your doctor rather than continuing on your own. Paracetamol is the safer choice for simple fever and headache. Take a fibre-rich diet and plenty of fluids; constipation is expected with any opioid.
