Timobest Drops contains Timolol maleate 0.5% w/v (equivalent to Timolol 0.5%). It belongs to the Non-selective beta-blocker (ophthalmic) class of medicines.

How Timobest Drops works

Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker. It reduces aqueous humour production in the eye, thereby lowering intraocular pressure and helping prevent optic nerve damage.

How to take Timobest Drops

For ophthalmic use only. Instill 1 drop into the affected eye(s) as prescribed, commonly once or twice daily. Wash hands before use, avoid touching dropper tip, and keep eyes closed for 1–2 minutes after instillation; apply punctal occlusion if advised. If using other eye medicines, keep a 5–10 minute gap.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from eye use; flush the eye with clean water if too much is instilled. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Timobest are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Do not use if allergic to timolol/beta-blockers. Use with caution/avoid in bronchial asthma, severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, or overt heart failure as it may be systemically absorbed. May mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia and hyperthyroidism; caution in diabetes/thyroid disease. Use caution with contact lenses (remove before use; reinsert after 15 minutes if formulation contains preservative). Inform doctor before surgery/anaesthesia. Seek urgent care for wheezing, breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, or severe eye pain/vision changes.

Interactions with other medicines

Other beta-blockers (including oral), calcium channel blockers (verapamil/diltiazem), digoxin, antiarrhythmics (amiodarone), clonidine, reserpine, catecholamine-depleting drugs, CYP2D6 inhibitors (fluoxetine/paroxetine/quinidine), adrenaline/epinephrine-containing eye drops (may increase blood pressure), insulin/oral antidiabetics (may mask hypoglycaemia)

How to store Timobest Drops

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Discard as per label after opening.

Expert advice for Timobest Drops

Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone.
