Topiramate 100 mg
Treatment of epilepsy/seizure disorders (partial onset seizures, generalized tonic-clonic seizures); prevention of migraine headaches (prophylaxis)
Topiramate is an antiepileptic medicine that stabilizes overactive nerve activity in the brain. It works by modulating voltage-gated sodium channels, enhancing GABA activity, and reducing excitatory glutamate transmission, thereby lowering seizure risk and helping prevent migraines.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly (may worsen seizures); dose is usually titrated gradually. Maintain adequate fluid intake to reduce kidney stone risk.
Common side effects of TOPAZ 100MG TAB may include:
Prescription-only antiepileptic. May cause drowsiness/dizziness—avoid driving or operating machinery until effects are known. Risk of metabolic acidosis, kidney stones, decreased sweating/heat intolerance (especially in children), and acute myopia/secondary angle-closure glaucoma—seek urgent care for eye pain/vision changes. Can cause mood/behavior changes and suicidal thoughts—monitor. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease; caution in liver disease. Do not stop abruptly. May reduce effectiveness of hormonal contraception at higher doses—use additional contraception as advised.
