How Topisal Mf 3%Oint works

Topisal-MF 3% Ointment is a combination of four medicines: Clobetasol, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid and Urea which treat eczema and psoriasis. Clobetasol is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid and Urea are keratolytic medicines which break down keratin clumps, remove dead skin cells and soften the skin. They also enhances the absorption of Clobetasol into the skin.

How to take Topisal Mf 3%Oint

For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area as advised by the doctor; avoid contact with eyes, mouth and broken skin unless directed. Wash hands before and after application.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Topisal-MF 3% Ointment, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. It can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. It is unlikely from skin use; swallowing the preparation may cause stomach upset. It is not a realistic risk from a moisturiser used on the skin. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

For external use only. Do not apply on face/groin/underarms unless prescribed. Avoid occlusive dressings unless advised. Prolonged use over large areas may cause skin thinning and other steroid-related effects if product contains a corticosteroid. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, allergy, or infection occurs.

Do not take Topisal Mf 3%Oint if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy. Not for use on broken or infected skin unless prescribed.

Using other topical medicines/irritants on the same area may increase irritation; occlusive dressings can increase absorption

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Topisal-MF 3% Ointment is used to treat the redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort of various skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Apply to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. After you have applied Topisal-MF 3% Ointment, remember to wash your hands (unless your hands are the treated area). Use a mild moisturizer regularly to overcome the skin dryness during the course of treatment. Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 2 weeks of treatment.
