Composition of Triluma Cream

Triluma Cream contains Hydroquinone (4% w/w) + Tretinoin (0.05% w/w) + Fluocinolone acetonide (0.01% w/w). It belongs to the Topical corticosteroid + depigmenting agent + topical retinoid class of medicines.

Uses of Triluma Cream

Treatment of melasma (facial hyperpigmentation) and short-term management of moderate to severe hyperpigmentation such as dark patches due to sun exposure; used with sun protection measures.

How Triluma Cream works

Hydroquinone reduces melanin formation by inhibiting tyrosinase, helping lighten dark patches. Tretinoin increases skin cell turnover and improves penetration of hydroquinone. Fluocinolone (a mild corticosteroid) reduces inflammation and irritation caused by the other ingredients.

How to take Triluma Cream

For external use only. Apply a thin film to the affected area once daily at night (usually for up to 8 weeks or as directed by a dermatologist). Cleanse and dry skin before application; avoid eyes, mouth, and broken skin. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen and protective clothing during daytime; avoid excessive sun/UV exposure.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Triluma Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use; swallowing the preparation may cause stomach upset. It can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. It can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Triluma Cream

Most side effects of Triluma are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Skin irritation

• redness
• dryness
• peeling
• itching
• photosensitivity
• acneiform eruptions
• skin thinning (with prolonged use)
• hypopigmentation
• telangiectasia

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Triluma Cream

Warnings and precautions

Use only under medical supervision; not for long-term continuous use. Avoid use on broken/eczema-affected skin and avoid occlusive dressings unless advised. Prolonged or improper use may cause skin atrophy, steroid-related effects, rebound pigmentation, or ochronosis (rare, with hydroquinone). Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, swelling, blistering, or allergy occurs. Avoid during active skin infections; treat infection first. Not recommended in children unless prescribed. Strict sun protection is essential.

Do not take Triluma if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on broken or infected skin unless prescribed. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy. Not for untreated bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections. Not for use in or around the eyes.

Interactions with other medicines

Other topical irritants (e.g., AHA/BHA exfoliants, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, alcohol-based products), depilatories/waxing, abrasive cleansers; concurrent topical steroids or retinoids may increase irritation. Avoid combining with photosensitizing therapies without medical advice.

How to store Triluma Cream

Store below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Triluma Cream

Along with applying Triluma Cream, wear long-sleeved clothing, sunglasses, or a hat whenever you step outside in the hot sun for better protection. Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings unless instructed by a doctor. Use moisturizer regularly to overcome skin dryness during the course of treatment. You may also use certain safe cosmetics (after consulting with your doctor) to lighten pigmentation. Before using Triluma Cream, inform your doctor if you have any skin problems or are applying any other medicines to your skin.
