Sodium Valproate 400 mg (controlled release tablet)
Epilepsy/seizure disorders (generalized and focal seizures), prevention of migraine (as prescribed), bipolar disorder/mania (as prescribed)
Valproate increases levels of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in the brain and modulates neuronal ion channels. This stabilizes overactive nerve firing, helping prevent seizures and mood episodes.
Take orally exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily. Swallow the controlled-release tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or break. Can be taken with food to reduce stomach upset; take at the same time each day.
Common side effects of VALPROL CR 400 TAB may include:
Prescription-only medicine. Risk of severe liver injury and pancreatitis—seek urgent care for persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, jaundice, dark urine, unusual tiredness. May cause thrombocytopenia/bleeding; periodic liver function and blood counts are advised. Can cause sedation—avoid driving/machinery until you know the effect. Not recommended in pregnancy due to high risk of birth defects and neurodevelopmental disorders; ensure effective contraception and consult doctor before planning pregnancy. Do not stop abruptly (may trigger seizures). Use caution in kidney disease, liver disease, mitochondrial disorders, and in children.
