Zithrox 250 Tablet contains Azithromycin (250mg). It belongs to the Macrolide antibiotic class of medicines.

Uses of Zithrox 250 Tablet

• Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis
• sinusitis
• bronchitis
• pneumonia)
• ear infections (otitis media)
• skin and soft tissue infections
• and certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g.
• uncomplicated chlamydial urethritis/cervicitis) as prescribed.

How Zithrox 250 Tablet works

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops bacterial growth and helps the immune system clear the infection.

How to take Zithrox 250 Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Can be taken with or without food; take with food if it causes stomach upset. Swallow with water at the same time each day and complete the full course even if you feel better.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Zithrox 250 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, hearing disturbance and heart rhythm changes. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Zithrox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections (not for viral cold/flu). Inform doctor if you have liver disease, history of jaundice with antibiotics, myasthenia gravis, slow/irregular heartbeat, low potassium/magnesium, or known QT prolongation. Stop and seek medical help if severe diarrhea, allergic reaction (swelling, breathing difficulty), or severe skin rash occurs. Dose adjustment/caution may be needed in hepatic impairment.

Do not take Zithrox if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to macrolide antibiotics, or with certain heart rhythm disorders.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption—separate dosing), warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk—monitor INR), antiarrhythmics and QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, quinolones, some antipsychotics), digoxin, ciclosporin, statins (rare myopathy risk), ergot derivatives (avoid)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Take Zithrox 250 Tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Zithrox 250 Tablet early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Take Zithrox 250 Tablet at the same time each day to maintain consistent antibiotic levels in the body. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after taking Zithrox 250 Tablet, as they may affect absorption. Take Zithrox 250 Tablet with food, or it may cause stomach upset. Diarrhea may occur while taking Zithrox 250 Tablet; stay hydrated and contact your doctor if it becomes severe. Stop taking Zithrox 250 Tablet and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease or a history of heart rhythm problems before taking Zithrox 250 Tablet. Report symptoms such as palpitations, fainting, or severe dizziness promptly to your doctor. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they worsen.
