Respule
To help loosen and clear thick mucus in the airways in conditions such as bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, bronchiolitis and other mucus-retaining respiratory illnesses; adjunct in productive cough with thick sputum as advised by doctor
Hypertonic saline draws water into the airway surface liquid by osmosis, which hydrates and thins thick mucus. This improves mucociliary clearance and makes it easier to cough out phlegm.
For inhalation via nebulizer only. Use one respule (4 mL) as prescribed; generally nebulize the entire contents using a jet/mesh nebulizer until finished. Use under medical advice; some patients may be advised to take a bronchodilator before nebulization to reduce bronchospasm risk. Do not inject or take orally.
Cough, throat irritation, chest tightness, wheezing/bronchospasm, salty taste, nausea
May cause bronchospasm especially in asthma/COPD—use with caution and stop if breathing worsens. Use only with a nebulizer; do not dilute unless advised. Use a new respule each time; discard any leftover solution. Seek medical help for severe wheeze, chest tightness, allergic reaction, or if symptoms persist/worsen.
No significant systemic drug interactions expected due to local use; concomitant use with inhaled bronchodilators is common and may be recommended to prevent bronchospasm. Follow physician advice if using other nebulized medicines (e.g., antibiotics, mucolytics) regarding sequence of nebulization.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep respules in original pack; use immediately after opening.
