Zolfresh 12.5mg Tablet ER belongs to a group of medicines called non-benzodiazepine hypnotics. It has hypnotic, sedative, and anticonvulsant (manages fits) properties. It works by binding of the GABAA receptor chloride channel macromolecular complex (a chemical messenger) that slows the activity of the nerve cells in the brain and helps fall asleep.

Warnings and precautions
These medicines cause dependence. They are intended for the shortest possible course — usually two to four weeks — and are not a long-term treatment for anxiety or sleeplessness. Never stop a regular course suddenly. Withdrawal can cause severe anxiety, tremor and fits. Your doctor will taper it slowly. Do not drive or operate machinery. Drowsiness and slowed reactions can continue into the next day. Never combine with alcohol or with opioid painkillers — together they can stop your breathing. Older people are far more likely to fall, become confused or have memory problems on these medicines. Several of these are Schedule H1 medicines and must be dispensed against a prescription and entered in the pharmacy register.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision.
Interactions with other medicines
Alcohol, opioids, antihistamines, muscle relaxants and other sedatives all deepen the sedation, sometimes fatally.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Expert advice for Zolfresh ER 12.5 Tablet
Your doctor has prescribed Zolfresh 12.5mg Tablet ER to help you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer. It is best taken without food, as a high-fat meal can reduce its absorption and effect. Take it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime and only when you have time to sleep for at least 7 hours. It makes you feel dizzy the next morning. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It does not affect total sleep time. However, it reduces sleep onset time and frequency of awakening at night. Never share your medication with any other person who also has a sleep problem. Inform your doctor if your sleep doesn’t improve after 7 to 10 days of treatment. Stop taking medication and inform your doctor If you experience sleep driving or memory loss. Do not stop taking medication suddenly as it may lead to anxiety, mood changes, and restlessness.
