How Zolfresh ODT 10 mg Tablet works

Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic that enhances the effect of GABA at the GABA-A receptor (preferentially the BZ1/omega-1 subtype). This increases inhibitory signaling in the brain, helping induce sleep and reduce sleep latency.

Warnings and precautions

May cause next-day drowsiness, impaired alertness and falls—avoid driving/operating machinery after use. Risk of complex sleep behaviours (sleep-walking, sleep-driving, etc.); stop and seek medical advice if these occur. Use with caution in elderly, liver impairment, respiratory disease/sleep apnoea, depression, and history of substance misuse. Risk of dependence, tolerance and withdrawal—use for short duration and do not stop abruptly without medical advice. Not recommended in children/adolescents.

Do not take Zolfresh ODT if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression risk; CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) may increase zolpidem levels; CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, St John’s wort) may reduce effect; caution with antidepressants/other psychotropics due to additive CNS effects

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zolfresh ODT 10 mg Tablet

Your doctor has prescribed Zolfresh ODT 10mg Tablet to help you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer. It is best taken without food, as a high-fat meal can reduce its absorption and effect. Take it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime and only when you have time to sleep for at least 7 hours. It makes you feel dizzy the next morning. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. It does not affect total sleep time. However, it reduces sleep onset time and frequency of awakening at night. Never share your medication with any other person who also has a sleep problem. Inform your doctor if your sleep doesn’t improve after 7 to 10 days of treatment. Stop taking medication and inform your doctor If you experience sleep driving or memory loss. Do not stop taking medication suddenly as it may lead to anxiety, mood changes, and restlessness.
