Zuropraz 20 mg Tablet contains Rabeprazole sodium 20 mg. It belongs to the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class of medicines.

How Zuropraz 20 mg Tablet works

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It irreversibly blocks the H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in stomach parietal cells, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion and relieving acidity and ulcer symptoms.

How to take Zuropraz 20 mg Tablet

Take by mouth as advised by the doctor. Commonly taken once daily, preferably 30 minutes before food (often before breakfast). Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zuropraz as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zuropraz than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zuropraz 20 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zuropraz are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• flatulence
• dizziness
• constipation

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, and gut infections (e.g., C. difficile). Seek medical advice if you have alarm symptoms such as blood in vomit/black stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, or difficulty swallowing. May mask symptoms of gastric cancer; evaluate if symptoms persist. Inform doctor if you have osteoporosis or are on diuretics/digoxin.

Interactions with other medicines

Atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced effect; avoid), warfarin (monitor INR), digoxin (risk of toxicity with low magnesium), methotrexate (high-dose; increased levels), ketoconazole/itraconazole/posaconazole (reduced absorption), erlotinib (reduced effect), clopidogrel (possible reduced activation; monitor/avoid if advised)
