Zylopred Eye Drops contains Prednisolone acetate 1% w/v ophthalmic suspension. It belongs to the Corticosteroid (glucocorticoid) class of medicines.

How Zylopred Eye Drops works

Prednisolone acetate is a corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing capillary permeability. This decreases redness, swelling, pain and irritation in the eye.

How to take Zylopred Eye Drops

For ophthalmic use only. Shake well before use (suspension). Instill the prescribed number of drops into the affected eye(s) as directed by the doctor. Wash hands, avoid touching the dropper tip, and keep eyes closed for 1–2 minutes after instillation; apply nasolacrimal occlusion if advised. If using other eye medicines, keep a 10–15 minute gap. Do not wear contact lenses unless advised.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause weight gain, high blood sugar, bone thinning and suppression of the body's own steroid production when it is taken over a prolonged period. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zylopred Eye Drops

Most side effects of Zylopred are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use only under ophthalmologist supervision. Prolonged use may increase intraocular pressure (glaucoma), cause cataract, delay wound healing, and increase risk of secondary bacterial/fungal/viral eye infections (including reactivation of herpes simplex). Do not use in untreated eye infections (e.g., fungal, viral such as herpes simplex epithelial keratitis) unless specifically prescribed. Seek care if eye pain, worsening redness, vision changes, or no improvement. Use caution in glaucoma, history of herpes simplex, and after eye surgery. Do not stop abruptly if used for a prolonged period—taper as advised.

Do not take Zylopred if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an untreated systemic infection, except where the steroid is part of the treatment.

Interactions with other medicines

Other ophthalmic drugs (separate by 10–15 min), concomitant topical NSAIDs may increase risk of delayed corneal healing; systemic CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir/cobicistat) may increase corticosteroid effects (rare with ophthalmic use)

How to store Zylopred Eye Drops

Store below 25°C, protect from light, do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed. Discard within 4 weeks of opening or as per label.
