Trimetazidine (60mg)

Management of stable angina pectoris (chronic ischemic heart disease) as add-on therapy when symptoms are not adequately controlled with first-line anti-anginal medicines or when they are not tolerated.

Trimetazidine is a metabolic anti-anginal agent. It shifts cardiac energy metabolism from fatty acid oxidation to glucose oxidation, improving the efficiency of oxygen use in heart cells. This helps reduce ischemia-related symptoms such as angina without significantly affecting heart rate or blood pressure.

Tablet (SR) is taken by mouth exactly as prescribed. Swallow whole with water; do not crush, break or chew. Preferably take at the same time each day, usually with food, and continue regularly for best benefit.

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, rash/itching

Not for relief of an acute angina attack; use prescribed short-acting nitrate for sudden chest pain. Use with caution in elderly and in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/avoidance may be needed in moderate-to-severe renal dysfunction. May cause or worsen movement disorders (parkinsonism, tremor, restless legs); stop and seek medical advice if such symptoms occur. Avoid use in Parkinson’s disease or other movement disorders. If dizziness occurs, avoid driving or operating machinery.

No major clinically significant interactions are common, but caution with other medicines that can cause dizziness or lower blood pressure; inform doctor about all cardiac medicines (beta-blockers, nitrates, calcium channel blockers), antihypertensives, and antiplatelets/anticoagulants.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
