Urinary alkaliser used to relieve burning urination and symptoms associated with acidic urine (e.g., dysuria in urinary tract infections) and to help prevent/treat certain types of kidney stones where urine alkalinisation is advised.
Urinary alkalinisers raise urine pH by providing alkaline salts/bicarbonate, which reduces acidity of urine. This can ease irritation and burning during urination and may reduce formation of uric acid/cystine stones when urine is kept less acidic.
Oral liquid. Dilute the measured dose in a glass of water and take after meals, as advised by the doctor. Maintain adequate fluid intake unless restricted; follow prescribed frequency and duration.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, belching, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, increased thirst
Use with caution in kidney disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, edema, or if on a sodium/potassium restricted diet (depending on salts). Do not use for prolonged periods without medical advice. Seek medical help if severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, blood in urine, fever, or symptoms of UTI persist/worsen. Monitor electrolytes if used regularly. Not a substitute for antibiotics when infection is present.
May affect absorption/excretion of pH-dependent medicines; separate from other oral medicines by 2 hours. Use caution with ACE inhibitors/ARBs, potassium-sparing diuretics (risk of high potassium if potassium salts present), diuretics/corticosteroids (electrolyte imbalance), lithium (reduced clearance with alkalinisation), methenamine (reduced effect), salicylates (altered excretion).
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
