Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina (chest pain), vasospastic/Prinzmetal’s angina; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events related to uncontrolled blood pressure

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It relaxes and widens peripheral arteries by blocking calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, lowering blood pressure. It also improves blood flow to the heart, reducing angina symptoms.

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Swelling of ankles/feet (edema), headache, dizziness, flushing, palpitations, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in severe hypotension, aortic stenosis, heart failure, and liver impairment (may need lower dose). Can cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Peripheral edema is common. Do not discontinue without doctor advice; monitor blood pressure regularly.

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose; increased levels), strong/moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors such as clarithromycin/erythromycin, azole antifungals, ritonavir (may increase amlodipine levels), CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin (may reduce effect), grapefruit juice (may increase levels in some), tadalafil/sildenafil (additive hypotension)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
