Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), management of chronic stable angina (chest pain) and blood pressure control in patients needing combination therapy
How It Works
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow, lowering blood pressure and reducing angina. Atenolol is a beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces the heart’s workload, helping lower blood pressure and prevent angina symptoms.
Directions for Use
Take orally as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow whole with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Use with caution in patients with low blood pressure, heart failure, slow heart rate/heart block, asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms), and liver disease. Do not stop beta-blocker abruptly (risk of rebound angina/MI). Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly. Seek help for severe dizziness, fainting, wheezing, swelling of face/lips, or chest pain worsening.
Drug Interactions
Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), verapamil/diltiazem (bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (conduction effects), antiarrhythmics like amiodarone (bradycardia), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), clonidine (rebound hypertension if withdrawn improperly), CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting amlodipine (e.g., clarithromycin, azoles, rifampicin), alcohol (may increase dizziness)
