Amlovas AT Tablet

Amlodipine (5mg) + Atenolol (50mg)

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); management of angina pectoris (chest pain) in patients requiring combination therapy

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, reducing peripheral resistance and blood pressure. Atenolol is a beta-1 selective blocker that slows heart rate and decreases cardiac output, lowering blood pressure and reducing angina symptoms.

Take orally as directed by physician, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Dizziness, headache, fatigue, ankle/leg swelling (edema), flushing, slow heart rate (bradycardia), low blood pressure, nausea

Prescription only (Schedule H). Use with caution in heart failure, conduction disorders (AV block), severe bradycardia, hypotension, and peripheral vascular disease. Beta-blocker component may mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia in diabetics; monitor glucose. Caution in asthma/COPD (beta-blockers may worsen bronchospasm, though atenolol is cardioselective). Do not discontinue abruptly (risk of rebound angina/hypertension). Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly; dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment (atenolol).

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), digoxin and other rate-lowering drugs (verapamil/diltiazem, amiodarone) (bradycardia/AV block), clonidine (rebound hypertension on withdrawal), NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive effect), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycaemia), CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting amlodipine (e.g., clarithromycin, azole antifungals, rifampicin), alcohol (enhanced BP lowering)
