Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension); treatment and prevention of angina (chest pain) including chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow to the heart, reducing angina symptoms.

Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Headache, dizziness, flushing, ankle/leg swelling (edema), fatigue, palpitations, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in liver impairment; may cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Monitor for excessive lowering of blood pressure, worsening chest pain at start of therapy (rare), and swelling/weight gain. Inform doctor if you have heart failure, aortic stenosis, or severe hypotension. Do not stop medicine abruptly without consulting your doctor.

Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole/itraconazole, ritonavir) may increase levels, CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce effect, simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose as per medical advice), grapefruit juice (may increase effect in some people), tacrolimus/cyclosporine (monitor levels)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
