Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia; nutritional supplementation in pregnancy, lactation, growing children/adolescents and during recovery from illness when advised by a doctor.
Oral iron supplements replenish body iron stores and support hemoglobin formation in red blood cells, improving oxygen delivery. Additional hematinic vitamins/minerals (if present in the formulation) help red blood cell production and improve iron utilization.
Shake well before use. Measure the dose with a cup/spoon as advised by the doctor. Preferably take after food if it causes stomach upset; avoid taking with tea/coffee/milk or calcium/antacids close to the dose. Rinse mouth after dosing to reduce teeth staining.
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhea, dark/black stools, metallic taste, teeth staining (with liquid iron)
Do not use in iron overload states (e.g., hemochromatosis/hemosiderosis) or non–iron-deficiency anemia unless prescribed. Keep out of reach of children—iron overdose can be fatal. Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or chronic liver disease. If severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of overdose occur, seek urgent medical help.
Antacids/calcium supplements, proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers (reduced iron absorption); tetracyclines and quinolone antibiotics (reduced absorption of both—separate by 2–4 hours); levothyroxine (separate by 4 hours); bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa (separate dosing); tea/coffee/high-fiber foods can reduce absorption.
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), tightly closed. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly capped after use.
