Injection
Treatment and prevention of folate and vitamin B12 deficiency; megaloblastic anemia due to nutritional deficiency; adjunct in deficiency states during pregnancy/lactation as advised by doctor.
Folic acid is required for DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation, helping correct megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is essential for normal red blood cell maturation and nerve function and helps treat anemia due to B12 deficiency.
Injection for IM/IV use as prescribed by a doctor. Dose and frequency depend on the deficiency and clinical condition; do not self-administer. Can be given with or without food.
Injection site pain, redness or swelling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, rash, itching
Use only under medical supervision. Rule out pernicious anemia/isolated vitamin B12 deficiency before giving folic acid alone, as folate may improve anemia while allowing neurological damage from B12 deficiency to progress. Use caution in patients with hypersensitivity to B vitamins/cobalt. If severe allergy (breathing difficulty, swelling, widespread rash) occurs, seek urgent care.
Methotrexate, trimethoprim, pyrimethamine (antifolates may reduce folate effect), phenytoin/phenobarbital/primidone (folate may reduce antiepileptic levels), chloramphenicol (may blunt hematologic response to B12/folate)
Store at room temperature (generally below 25°C), protect from light, do not freeze. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
