Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension
How It Works
Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin (prostamide) analog that increases aqueous humor outflow mainly through the uveoscleral pathway. This lowers intraocular pressure and helps protect the optic nerve in glaucoma.
Directions for Use
For ophthalmic use only. Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening or as directed by the doctor. Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after 15 minutes. Do not touch the dropper tip; if using other eye drops, keep a 5–10 minute gap.
Side Effects
Eye redness (conjunctival hyperaemia),itching or irritation,burning/stinging,foreign body sensation,dry eyes,blurred vision,increased eyelash growth,eyelid skin darkening,iris pigmentation changes
Warnings & Precautions
Use with caution in patients with a history of uveitis/iritis, macular edema (especially aphakic/pseudophakic with torn posterior lens capsule), or active intraocular inflammation. May cause permanent increase in brown iris pigmentation and darkening of eyelid skin; eyelash changes can occur. Avoid contamination of the dropper; discontinue and consult doctor if eye infection, significant pain, or vision changes occur. Not recommended for use in children unless prescribed by an ophthalmologist.
Drug Interactions
Other prostaglandin analog eye drops (e.g., latanoprost/travoprost) may reduce IOP-lowering effect if used together; use only if advised. No major systemic drug interactions expected due to low systemic absorption.
