Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension
Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that increases outflow of aqueous humour mainly via the uveoscleral pathway (and also trabecular outflow). This lowers intraocular pressure and helps protect the optic nerve.
For ophthalmic use only. Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening, or as directed by the doctor. Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after 15 minutes. If using other eye drops, keep a 5–10 minute gap.
Eye redness (conjunctival hyperaemia),eye irritation/burning,itching,blurred vision,increased eyelash growth,eyelid darkening,increased iris pigmentation,dry eye,foreign body sensation
May cause permanent darkening of iris color and increased eyelash growth; eyelid skin darkening may occur. Use cautiously in patients with history of uveitis/iritis, macular edema (especially aphakic/pseudophakic with torn posterior capsule), or active intraocular inflammation. Avoid touching dropper tip to prevent contamination; discontinue and seek care if severe eye pain, vision changes, or signs of infection occur. Not for injection or oral use.
Other prostaglandin analogues (may reduce IOP-lowering effect when used together),timolol and other antiglaucoma drops (additive IOP lowering),contact lens solutions/preservatives (remove lenses before dosing)
Store below 25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed; use within the period stated on label after opening.
