Treatment and prevention of biotin deficiency; supportive therapy for brittle nails, hair thinning/hair fall related to deficiency; adjunct in certain metabolic disorders as advised by a doctor
How It Works
Biotin is a water‑soluble B‑complex vitamin that acts as a cofactor for carboxylase enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis, gluconeogenesis and amino acid metabolism. It supports normal keratin infrastructure, helping maintain healthy hair, skin and nails when deficiency is present.
Directions for Use
Take by mouth as directed by your doctor. Commonly 1 tablet once daily with or without food; swallow with water. Maintain regular use; do not exceed recommended dose unless advised.
Biotin can interfere with certain lab tests (especially thyroid function tests and cardiac troponin assays), potentially causing falsely high/low results—inform your doctor and lab before testing and consider stopping 48–72 hours prior if advised. Use caution in patients with unexplained symptoms being evaluated for heart attack or thyroid disease. If you develop allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), stop and seek medical help.
Drug Interactions
May interfere with laboratory tests (troponin, TSH/T3/T4 and other immunoassays); long-term antibiotics may reduce biotin levels; anticonvulsants (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone) may lower biotin levels; isotretinoin may affect biotin/skin symptoms
