Monograph
Bisoprolol fumarate 2.5 mg (equivalent to Bisoprolol 2.5 mg)
Hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina (chest pain due to coronary artery disease), chronic heart failure (as part of combination therapy)
Bisoprolol is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction, lowering blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand, which helps control angina and supports heart failure management.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water. Do not stop suddenly—dose should be tapered under medical advice.
Bradycardia (slow pulse), dizziness, fatigue, headache, cold hands/feet, low blood pressure, nausea, sleep disturbances
Do not stop abruptly (risk of worsening angina/arrhythmias). Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may cause bronchospasm), diabetes (can mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), thyroid disorders, peripheral vascular disease, and in patients with conduction disorders (AV block), bradycardia or hypotension. In heart failure, start low and titrate; monitor pulse and BP. Seek urgent care for wheezing, fainting, very slow pulse, or worsening breathlessness/swelling.
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem, digoxin, amiodarone (increased bradycardia/AV block), clonidine (rebound hypertension if withdrawn), antiarrhythmics, insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycaemia), NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive effect), beta-agonist bronchodilators (reduced effect), MAO inhibitors (except MAO-B)
Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
