Carvedilol (12.5mg)

Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic heart failure (as add-on therapy), and angina; also used after heart attack with left ventricular dysfunction as advised by a doctor

Carvedilol is a beta-blocker with additional alpha-1 blocking action. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction and relaxes blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and reducing workload on the heart.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce dizziness. Swallow the tablet whole with water at the same time each day; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, headache, nausea, diarrhea, weight gain, edema (swelling)

May cause dizziness/low blood pressure—rise slowly and avoid driving if symptomatic. Do not stop abruptly (risk of rebound hypertension/angina). Use with caution in asthma/COPD (may worsen bronchospasm), diabetes (masks low sugar symptoms), liver disease, kidney impairment, peripheral vascular disease, and in patients with very slow pulse/heart block unless paced. Monitor blood pressure and heart rate regularly.

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), digoxin (increased levels/bradycardia risk), amiodarone/verapamil/diltiazem (bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped improperly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycemia), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), rifampicin (reduced carvedilol effect), cimetidine (increased carvedilol levels)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place protected from light and moisture. Keep in original packaging and out of reach of children.
