Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic heart failure (as part of combination therapy), and angina (chest pain)
Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-blocker with alpha-1 blocking activity. It reduces heart rate and the force of contraction and also relaxes blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and reducing the heart’s workload.
Take by mouth as advised by a doctor, preferably with food to reduce dizziness. Take at the same time each day; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, headache, nausea, diarrhea, weight gain, swelling of ankles/feet
May cause dizziness or fainting, especially after the first dose or dose increases—rise slowly from sitting/lying positions. Do not stop abruptly (risk of worsening angina/heart failure). Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask low sugar symptoms), peripheral vascular disease, liver impairment, and severe bradycardia or heart block. Monitor blood pressure and pulse regularly. Driving/operating machinery may be affected.
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), digoxin (may increase digoxin levels and slow heart rate), calcium channel blockers like verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block), antiarrhythmics like amiodarone, clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped improperly), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masks hypoglycemia), NSAIDs (may reduce antihypertensive effect), CYP2D6 inhibitors like fluoxetine/paroxetine (may increase carvedilol levels)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister and out of reach of children.
