Prevention and treatment of nutritional deficiencies such as iron deficiency anaemia; supplementation in pregnancy/lactation or during periods of increased requirement; supports red blood cell formation and vitamin D deficiency supplementation.
Ferrous ascorbate replenishes iron needed for haemoglobin and red blood cell production, while folic acid and vitamin B12 support DNA synthesis and maturation of red blood cells. Vitamin D3 helps improve calcium absorption and corrects vitamin D deficiency, supporting bone and muscle health.
Take as directed by physician. Typically taken orally with water, preferably after food to reduce stomach upset; avoid taking with tea/coffee, calcium or antacids close to the dose. Do not crush/chew unless advised.
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, dark/black stools, metallic taste, heartburn, bloating
Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, or history of iron overload (hemochromatosis/hemosiderosis). Do not use for anaemia not caused by iron deficiency unless prescribed. Vitamin D excess can cause hypercalcaemia—avoid additional high-dose vitamin D/calcium unless advised. Keep out of reach of children (iron overdose can be dangerous).
Antacids, calcium supplements, dairy products, tea/coffee (reduce iron absorption); tetracyclines and quinolone antibiotics (separate by 2–4 hours); levothyroxine (separate by 4 hours); bisphosphonates (separate dosing); methyldopa, penicillamine (reduced absorption); anticonvulsants (phenytoin/phenobarbital) may reduce folate levels; cholestyramine/orlistat may reduce vitamin D absorption
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep in original blister pack.
