Disodium hydrogen citrate 1.4 g per 5 g sachet (approx; check pack label)
Symptomatic relief in urinary tract infection (UTI) such as burning urination and discomfort; urinary alkalinisation in acidic urine
Disodium hydrogen citrate is a urinary alkaliniser. It increases urine pH by buffering acids, making urine less acidic. This reduces burning sensation during urination and helps relieve urinary discomfort (it does not treat the infection itself).
Dissolve the contents of 1 sachet in a glass of water and drink immediately. Typically taken 2–3 times daily after meals or as directed by a doctor. Maintain adequate fluid intake.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloating, increased thirst
For symptomatic relief only; UTIs usually require antibiotics—consult a doctor if fever, flank pain, blood in urine, recurrent symptoms, or no improvement in 1–2 days. Use with caution in kidney disease, heart failure, hypertension, edema, or patients on sodium-restricted diet (contains sodium). Avoid/seek advice in severe renal impairment or metabolic alkalosis. Do not exceed recommended dose.
Drugs affected by urine pH (may alter excretion of some medicines), aluminium-containing antacids (may increase aluminium absorption in renal impairment), potassium-sparing diuretics/ACE inhibitors/ARBs (if product contains potassium—verify label), sodium bicarbonate/other alkalinisers (additive alkalosis risk)
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep sachets tightly sealed and out of reach of children.
