Treatment and prevention of Vitamin D deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency-related bone disorders such as osteomalacia and rickets, adjunct in osteoporosis management
Cholecalciferol is converted in the body to active vitamin D, which increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate. It helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralization and muscle function.
Oral tablet. Take as directed by doctor, commonly 1 tablet once weekly for a prescribed duration or once monthly for maintenance. Can be taken with or after food (preferably with a meal containing fat) and with water; do not exceed recommended dose.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, weakness, increased thirst, increased urination
Use with caution in hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, kidney stones, severe renal impairment, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. Excess dosing may cause vitamin D toxicity (high calcium) with symptoms like persistent nausea, confusion, excessive thirst/urination, or arrhythmias—seek medical help. Monitor calcium and vitamin D levels if on high-dose therapy or long-term use.
Thiazide diuretics (risk of hypercalcemia), digoxin and other cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with high calcium), anticonvulsants like phenytoin/phenobarbital/carbamazepine (reduced vitamin D effect), glucocorticoids (reduced effect), cholestyramine/orlistat/mineral oil (reduced absorption), aluminium-containing antacids in renal impairment (hypermagnesemia/hyperaluminemia risk)
