Prevention and treatment of infection in burn wounds; helps prevent bacterial infection in second- and third-degree burns and other susceptible skin wounds as advised by a doctor

Silver sulfadiazine releases silver ions and a sulfonamide component that act against a broad range of bacteria. It inhibits bacterial growth and reduces the risk of wound infection in burns.

For external use only. Clean the affected area as advised, then apply a thin layer to cover the burn/wound once or twice daily or as directed by the physician. May be applied under a sterile dressing; wash hands before and after application.

Do not use if allergic to sulfonamides or silver-containing products. Use with caution in patients with severe kidney or liver disease, G6PD deficiency, or extensive burns (systemic absorption possible). Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucosa. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, rash, fever, or signs of allergy occur. Not recommended for premature neonates or infants <2 months due to risk of kernicterus. Use only on doctor’s advice in large area application.

May interact with other topical agents/dressings applied on the same site (reduced effect/irritation). Concomitant use with proteolytic enzymes for debridement may reduce enzyme activity. If systemic absorption occurs on large burns, interactions similar to sulfonamides are possible (e.g., warfarin, phenytoin, methotrexate) — consult doctor.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep cap tightly closed and out of reach of children.
