Monograph
Diclofenac diethylamine 1.16% w/w (equivalent to Diclofenac sodium 1% w/w) topical solution/gel
Relief of pain and inflammation in musculoskeletal conditions such as sprains, strains, sports injuries, back/neck pain, tendonitis, and localized osteoarthritis pain.
Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits COX enzymes, reducing prostaglandin production. This lowers inflammation, pain and swelling at the application site with minimal systemic exposure when used topically.
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and gently rub in, typically 3-4 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Wash hands after use (unless treating hands). Avoid applying on broken/irritated skin; avoid eyes, mouth and mucosa. Do not cover with tight/occlusive bandage unless advised.
Application site burning, itching, redness, rash, dryness, peeling
Do not use if allergic to diclofenac/aspirin/other NSAIDs. Avoid use on open wounds, infected skin, eczema or dermatitis. Stop and seek medical advice if severe skin reaction occurs. Use caution in asthma, history of NSAID allergy, stomach ulcer/bleeding, kidney or liver disease (systemic absorption is low but possible with large-area/long-term use). Avoid excessive sun/UV exposure on treated area. Not recommended for children unless prescribed.
Other NSAIDs (including aspirin), anticoagulants/antiplatelets (e.g., warfarin, clopidogrel), corticosteroids, SSRIs/SNRIs (bleeding risk), ACE inhibitors/ARBs and diuretics (kidney risk) — interactions are mainly relevant if significant systemic absorption occurs.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep container tightly closed and protect from heat and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
