Piroxicam 20 mg/2 mL (as piroxicam) injection

Relief of pain and inflammation in acute musculoskeletal conditions, acute gout, postoperative pain, and flare-ups of rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis when oral therapy is not suitable.

Piroxicam is an NSAID that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This lowers inflammation, pain, and swelling.

For intramuscular (IM) use only; administer deep IM by a healthcare professional. Dose and duration as prescribed; usually used short term and may be switched to oral therapy when appropriate. Do not inject intravenously or subcutaneously.

Prescription-only (Schedule H). NSAIDs may increase risk of stomach/intestinal ulcer or bleeding (higher in elderly, history of ulcer, with alcohol, steroids, anticoagulants). May increase risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with higher doses/long use. Use with caution in asthma, hypertension, heart failure, kidney or liver disease, dehydration. Stop and seek care if black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, rash/blistering, facial swelling, breathing difficulty. Avoid in active peptic ulcer/bleeding and severe heart, kidney or liver impairment unless advised by doctor.
