Dolonex IM Injection is a prescription medicine containing Piroxicam 20 mg/2 mL (as piroxicam) injection. It is used for pain, inflammation in acute musculoskeletal conditions, acute gout and postoperative pain. It belongs to the group of medicines called NSAID (Oxicam derivative).
For intramuscular (IM) use only; administer deep IM by a healthcare professional. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Dolonex IM Injection are injection site pain, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Dolonex IM Injection works.
Most side effects of Dolonex IM are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
For intramuscular (IM) use only; administer deep IM by a healthcare professional. Dose and duration as prescribed; usually used short term and may be switched to oral therapy when appropriate. Do not inject intravenously or subcutaneously.
Piroxicam is an NSAID that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. This lowers inflammation, pain, and swelling.
Prescription-only (Schedule H). NSAIDs may increase risk of stomach/intestinal ulcer or bleeding (higher in elderly, history of ulcer, with alcohol, steroids, anticoagulants). May increase risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with higher doses/long use. Use with caution in asthma, hypertension, heart failure, kidney or liver disease, dehydration. Stop and seek care if black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, rash/blistering, facial swelling, breathing difficulty. Avoid in active peptic ulcer/bleeding and severe heart, kidney or liver impairment unless advised by doctor.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause stomach bleeding, kidney failure, drowsiness and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
