Treatment of diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) to improve blood glucose control; used when a premixed rapid-acting/ intermediate-acting insulin regimen is advised.

This premixed insulin contains insulin lispro (rapid-acting) for controlling post-meal blood sugar spikes and insulin lispro protamine (intermediate-acting) for basal control between meals and overnight. It increases peripheral glucose uptake and reduces hepatic glucose production, lowering blood glucose.

For subcutaneous use only via prefilled KwikPen. Inject as prescribed, typically within 15 minutes before a meal (or immediately after as advised). Do not mix with other insulins in the pen; rotate injection sites (abdomen, thigh, upper arm); prime the pen before each injection and use a new needle each time. Do not use intravenously or in insulin pumps.

Risk of hypoglycaemia—monitor glucose regularly and carry fast-acting sugar. Use with caution in renal or hepatic impairment and in elderly patients (may need dose adjustment). Do not use during episodes of hypoglycaemia. Switching insulin brand/type or changes in dose, diet, activity, or illness can alter insulin needs—do only under medical supervision. Watch for allergic reactions; rotate sites to reduce lipodystrophy. Use caution while driving/operating machinery if prone to hypoglycaemia.

Other antidiabetic drugs (increased hypoglycaemia risk), ACE inhibitors and salicylates (may increase hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/thyroid hormones/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (may increase glucose and insulin requirement), alcohol (may increase hypoglycaemia), MAO inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia)

Store unopened pens refrigerated at 2–8°C; do not freeze; protect from light. After first use, keep at room temperature (below 30°C) away from heat/light and use within 28 days (do not refrigerate if in use). Keep pen capped; discard if frozen or exposed to excessive heat.
