Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); reduction of cardiovascular risk (heart attack/stroke) in high-risk patients when appropriate.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks AT1 receptors. This relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart.
Oral tablet. Take as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day; can be taken with or without food. Swallow whole with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, back pain, low blood pressure, increased potassium (hyperkalemia), raised creatinine
Not recommended in pregnancy (especially 2nd/3rd trimester) due to risk of fetal harm; avoid in severe liver impairment or biliary obstruction. Use caution in kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, dehydration/low salt, and in elderly due to risk of hypotension and kidney function changes. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium; seek help for fainting, swelling of face/lips, or reduced urine output.
Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride), ACE inhibitors or other ARBs/aliskiren (higher risk of kidney issues and hyperkalemia), NSAIDs (reduced effect and kidney risk), lithium (toxicity), diuretics (additive low BP), trimethoprim (raises potassium)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
