Monograph
Capsule
Vitamin B12 deficiency, megaloblastic anemia due to B12 deficiency, peripheral neuropathy/neuropathic symptoms associated with B12 deficiency (tingling, numbness)
Methylcobalamin is an active form of vitamin B12. It supports DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation and helps maintain the myelin sheath of nerves, thereby improving nerve function in B12 deficiency.
Capsule for oral use. Take as prescribed by the doctor, preferably after food with water; swallow whole without opening or chewing. Duration depends on deficiency/clinical response.
Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching
Use with caution if you have a history of hypersensitivity to cobalamins. In megaloblastic anemia, confirm diagnosis before treatment; folate supplementation alone can mask B12 deficiency and worsen neurological symptoms. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or if you have severe anemia, unexplained weight loss, or neurological symptoms.
Chloramphenicol (may reduce hematologic response), metformin (long-term use may reduce B12 levels), proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers (long-term use may reduce B12 absorption), nitrous oxide anesthesia (can inactivate B12), colchicine (may reduce absorption)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Nurokind Capsule, Mecobal Capsule, Cobadex CZS (if B12-containing variant), Neurobion Forte (B-complex with B12), Becosules (B-complex; check B12 strength)
