Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); management of chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events by controlling BP.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, lowering blood pressure. It also improves blood flow to the heart, reducing angina symptoms.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow whole with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Headache, dizziness, flushing, ankle/leg swelling (edema), palpitations, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in liver disease (dose adjustment may be needed), heart failure, severe aortic stenosis, and very low blood pressure. May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Monitor blood pressure regularly. Seek urgent help for swelling of face/lips, breathing difficulty, or severe chest pain.

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, azole antifungals, ritonavir) may increase amlodipine levels; CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect; additive BP lowering with other antihypertensives (ACE inhibitors/ARBs, beta-blockers, diuretics); simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose as per clinician advice when used with amlodipine); grapefruit juice may increase levels in some patients.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
