Myotan Ct 40/12.5 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Telmisartan 40 mg + Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg. It is used for hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when single-drug therapy is inadequate and helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events related to uncontrolled BP. It belongs to the group of medicines called Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) + Thiazide-like diuretic.
Take as prescribed by doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Myotan Ct 40/12.5 mg Tablet are dizziness, headache, increased urination and fatigue. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Myotan Ct 40/12.5 mg Tablet works.
Most side effects of Myotan Ct 40/12.5 mg are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take as prescribed by doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet with water. Because it contains a diuretic, taking it in the morning may reduce nighttime urination. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II, lowering blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that increases salt and water excretion, reducing blood volume and BP. The combination provides additive BP-lowering effect.
Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and electrolytes (especially potassium, sodium, magnesium). Risk of dehydration and hypotension, especially in elderly, on low-salt diet, or with vomiting/diarrhoea. Use caution in kidney impairment, liver disease, gout (may raise uric acid), diabetes (may affect glucose), and in patients with electrolyte imbalance. Avoid use in severe renal impairment/anuria. Seek help if swelling of face/lips, breathing difficulty (angioedema), severe dizziness/fainting, or decreased urine occurs.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. It can cause severe dehydration, a sharp fall in blood pressure and dangerous salt imbalances. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), NSAIDs (reduced effect and kidney risk), lithium (increased lithium toxicity), potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics/salt substitutes (risk of high potassium with telmisartan), diuretics or corticosteroids (electrolyte imbalance), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (increased renal/hyperkalaemia risk; avoid in diabetes with aliskiren), digoxin (telmisartan may increase levels), antidiabetic medicines (may require dose adjustment)
