Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), treatment of chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) angina; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events related to uncontrolled blood pressure.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart’s workload, improving blood flow to the heart and relieving angina.

Oral tablet. Take as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Swelling of ankles/feet (edema), headache, dizziness, flushing, palpitations, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain

May cause dizziness—use caution while driving/operating machinery. Monitor for ankle swelling, low blood pressure, or worsening chest pain when starting or increasing dose. Use with caution in severe aortic stenosis, heart failure, liver impairment, and in elderly patients (may need dose adjustment). Do not stop medicine abruptly without doctor advice; regular BP monitoring recommended.

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose; increased levels), CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin, azole antifungals, ritonavir) may increase amlodipine levels, CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect, grapefruit juice (may increase levels), tacrolimus/cyclosporine (monitor levels), sildenafil/tadalafil (additive hypotension)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister and out of reach of children.
