Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and heartburn, erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, prevention/treatment of NSAID-induced ulcers, Zollinger–Ellison syndrome/acid hypersecretory states

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It irreversibly blocks the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing stomach acid production and promoting healing of acid-related injury.

Oral tablet: usually taken once daily, preferably 30–60 minutes before food (often before breakfast). Swallow whole; do not crush/chew/break (enteric-coated). Duration and dose should be as advised by a doctor.

Headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, constipation, dizziness

Do not use if allergic to pantoprazole/other PPIs. Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, black stools, blood in vomit, difficulty swallowing). Long-term use may increase risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, and certain infections (e.g., C. difficile). Use with caution in severe liver disease. May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy; consider evaluation if symptoms persist/return.

Warfarin (INR changes), methotrexate (especially high-dose; increased levels), digoxin (risk with low magnesium), diuretics (may worsen hypomagnesemia), drugs needing acidic pH for absorption such as ketoconazole/itraconazole/posaconazole, erlotinib, atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced effect; avoid with some HIV protease inhibitors)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
