Qutiwel SR 50 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Quetiapine (50mg). It is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (mania, depressive episodes), maintenance therapy in bipolar disorder and as adjunct in major depressive disorder (as prescribed). It belongs to the group of medicines called Atypical antipsychotic (second-generation antipsychotic).
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily (often in the evening). The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Qutiwel SR 50 mg Tablet are sleepiness/drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Qutiwel SR 50 mg Tablet works.
Most side effects of Qutiwel SR are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily (often in the evening). Swallow the SR tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or split. Can be taken with or without food; avoid abrupt stopping unless advised by doctor.
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that modulates neurotransmitters in the brain by antagonizing serotonin (5-HT2) and dopamine (D2) receptors. The sustained-release formulation provides gradual drug release to help maintain stable blood levels and reduce symptom fluctuations.
Prescription-only antipsychotic. May cause significant drowsiness—avoid driving/machinery until you know its effects. Risk of orthostatic hypotension and falls, especially when starting or increasing dose. Can increase blood sugar, cholesterol and weight; monitor glucose/lipids/weight. Rare but serious: neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, seizures, severe allergic reactions. Use caution in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (increased mortality risk). Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in young adults. Dose adjustment may be needed in liver impairment.
If you miss a dose of QUTIwel 50mg Tablet SR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, a severe fall in blood pressure, abnormal movements and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased sedation), antihypertensives (additive low BP), CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole/itraconazole/clarithromycin/ritonavir (increase quetiapine levels), CYP3A4 inducers such as carbamazepine/phenytoin/rifampicin (reduce effect), QT-prolonging medicines (additive risk), grapefruit juice (may increase levels)
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
