Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute bronchitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated typhoid fever, as prescribed.

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor; commonly taken once daily or in two divided doses. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day and complete the full course even if you feel better.

Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, vomiting, headache, dizziness, rash, itching, raised liver enzymes

Use only for bacterial infections; not effective for viral infections. Inform doctor if you have allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins or history of severe allergic reactions. Use with caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Antibiotics may cause diarrhoea; seek medical help if severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools (possible C. difficile). Prolonged use may lead to superinfection; use as directed.

Warfarin and other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced effect), antacids containing magnesium/aluminium (may reduce absorption; separate dosing if advised)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
