Treatment of acne vulgaris (blackheads, whiteheads and pimples); helps reduce comedones and inflammatory acne lesions
Tretinoin is a topical retinoid (vitamin A derivative) that normalizes follicular keratinization and increases skin cell turnover. It helps unplug blocked pores, reduces formation of new comedones and has anti-inflammatory effects, improving acne over time.
For external use only. Apply a thin layer once daily at night to clean, dry affected skin (not spot-only unless advised). Start with alternate nights if irritation occurs; avoid eyes, lips, nostrils and broken/eczema skin. Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer and apply sunscreen during the day.
Skin irritation, redness, dryness, peeling/flaking, burning or stinging, itching, increased sensitivity to sunlight
May cause significant dryness/irritation especially in the first weeks; reduce frequency or stop and consult a doctor if severe. Avoid excessive sun exposure; use broad-spectrum sunscreen. Do not use on sunburned, cut or eczematous skin. Avoid concurrent use of harsh soaps, astringents, scrubs, waxing or abrasive cleansers. Use with caution if using other acne treatments; spacing applications may be needed.
Other topical irritants (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur/resorcinol, alcohol-based products, abrasive cleansers), photosensitizing agents; benzoyl peroxide may inactivate tretinoin—use at different times if prescribed
