Fever, mild to moderate pain such as headache, body ache, toothache, sore throat, cold/flu-associated fever and aches

Paracetamol reduces fever and relieves pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the brain and acting on the heat-regulating center (hypothalamus). It has minimal anti-inflammatory effect compared with NSAIDs.

Tablet: Take as directed by a doctor. Common adult use is 1 tablet (500 mg) every 4–6 hours as needed; do not exceed 4,000 mg paracetamol/day from all sources. Can be taken with or without food; take with food if it upsets the stomach.

Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, rash, itching, increased liver enzymes (rare)

Do not exceed the recommended dose or use multiple paracetamol-containing products together (risk of severe liver damage). Use with caution in liver disease, chronic alcoholism, malnutrition, dehydration, or severe kidney disease. Stop and seek medical help if allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occur. If fever persists >3 days or pain >5 days, consult a doctor.

Alcohol, warfarin/other coumarin anticoagulants (with prolonged use), isoniazid, rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital/primidone, other hepatotoxic medicines

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
