Prevention and treatment of nutritional deficiencies related to folate (folic acid) and other vitamins/minerals, including megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency; used as a supplement in pregnancy and lactation when prescribed.
Folate is required for DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation; supplementation corrects folate deficiency and helps treat/prevent megaloblastic anemia. If combined with other vitamins/minerals, they support hematinic and metabolic functions and help correct nutritional gaps.
Take orally as advised by the physician, usually once daily. Swallow tablet/capsule whole with water; may be taken with or without food (take after food if stomach upset occurs). Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Nausea, abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, rash
Use under medical advice if you have vitamin B12 deficiency/pernicious anemia (folate can mask B12 deficiency and delay diagnosis). Caution in seizure disorders or if taking antiepileptic medicines. Stop and seek care if allergic reaction occurs. In pregnancy, use only the dose recommended by your doctor.
Antiepileptics (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone), methotrexate, trimethoprim, sulfasalazine, cholestyramine, metformin (may reduce folate/B12 status)
