Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks peripheral H1 receptors. It reduces the effects of histamine responsible for allergy symptoms like itching, sneezing and runny nose, with relatively less sedation than older antihistamines.
Oral syrup. Use as prescribed by a doctor; measure dose with a calibrated spoon/cup. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

May cause sleepiness in some people—avoid driving/operating machinery if affected. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed). Alcohol, other CNS depressants/sedatives (e.g., benzodiazepines, opioids), other antihistamines; theophylline may reduce cetirizine clearance (usually mild).
